Original Articles of Incorporation

Later Certificate of Incorporation

Originally based at the Bellingham, Washington airport (KBLI),

Chapter 404 eventually moved its meetings to Lynden's airport "Jansen Field" 38W...

and in 2009 the Chapter moved its meetings back to Bellingham Airport,

utilizing hangar space generously provided by Definitive Avionics owner Vaughn Burgess,

and then to Command Aviation's hangar in 2010.

Below, one of our newer members (April, 2010) has a long history with the EAA!

Here are some slides provided by Dick Hermann from the 1972 Lynden Fly-in...

A Monocoupe arrives...

Vern Tegland's home-built gets hand-propped...

Okay, we now know, thanks to Ellis Vonheeder of Chapter 684 [Olympia WA, and a former 404 member] that Vern's machine was a Volper VJ-22.

Ellis, after meeting your Webmaster at the Fantasy Field Fly-in July 9, 2009, wrote:

"I was a charter member of 404 when it formed long ago in Bellingham.  I remember Dan, Doug and Derek Looker when they lived in Ferndale.  Derek was still building his CA61- the boys were both enthusiastic about aviation-related stuff.  At the time, I was building a VP1, but had to give it up- life gets in the way sometimes."

"My best to all up there- if Rick Luke is still around, look him up and say hello to him for me.

"Is there any interest up there in the relatively new design, the Thatcher CX4?  All-metal, low-wing, conventional gear, VW-powered and LSA-legal.  I bought the plans about three years ago, thinking that I would build one.  Unfortunately, I can't be on my feet for too long at one time, and concrete floors kill them!

"I enjoyed seeing Teglund's picture.  I wonder if the builder of the Volmer VJ22 is still around?  I used to go on hops with Russ Karns in his Citabria, but I understand that he "went west" some years ago.  The last I heard of Jon Wulle, he is in the Portland area and has a law practice.

"Cheers!!"

...From the Bellingham Sunday Herald of October 6th, 1974 we found this bit of history...

A flash from the past: this Stinson V77 was owned and flown by member Kim Powell's Dad back in the day.
